Cost of prostheses and compensation

About the cost

The cost of the prosthesis consists of the cost of work from the components used for the work.

Components

In our opinion, this is the most important part of any prosthesis. If the sleeve is high quality, the use of the prosthesis will be a joy, if not, it will turn into hell. And no expensive "hardware" will save your prosthesis. After all, if gold shoes are too small for you by 4 sizes, you will not be able to walk in them, despite the fact that they are golden. This is a costly element - the cost of work, including prosthetics, training in the use of a prosthesis, walking training (for lower limbs) and accompanying the patient throughout the entire period of use of the prosthesis.

It is needed at any level of amputation. This is the first component of the price of components. In the sections for each level of amputation, we have described the existing systems.

Feet – the feet can be from wooden, ($250), to microprocessor-controlled ($19 000).

Each foot is selected individually for the patient, taking into account a number of factors.

Hands can be plastic with PVC coating, (up to $100), or they can be microprocessor-controlled with a silicone shell (up to $63 000).

Knee modules can be mechanical from from $300, mechanical-hydraulic from from $2500, and with microprocessor control from from $18 000.

Elbow joints can be mechanical (with different types of fixation and from this the price is from $630 to from $6300) and with microprocessor control (from $3500 up to from $25 000).

  • heel height regulators;
  • vertical-torsion shock damper;
  • rotary adapter (for lower limb prostheses);
  • active hand rotator;
  • quick-change wrist joint (for upper limb prostheses).

Ways to get compensation

According to the current legislation, there are two ways to get a prosthesis for free

01

Appeal to the FSS or DSZN

Description

Applying to the FSS or DSC body (depending on the place of residence) and receiving a referral to receive a prosthesis at the prosthetic company with whom the contract is concluded. After receiving the prosthesis, the patient signs documents that he is satisfied with everything and the department transfers funds to the enterprise for this patient.

Positive

No financial expenses Territorial proximity - most likely the PROP will be in the patient's region of residence.

Minuses

Purchase of a prosthesis at their own expense, and submits documents for compensation to the FSS or DSCN body (depending on the place of residence)

02

Submission of documents for compensation to the FSS or DSCN after the purchase of a prosthesis

Description

The patient purchases a prosthesis at his own expense, and submits documents for compensation to the FSS or DSCN body (depending on the place of residence).

Positive

The patient can choose the place of prosthetics himself It is possible to choose the complete set of the prosthesis that is most suitable for the patient's requirements;

Minuses

Financial costs – where to get money for a prosthesis (we solve this problem with interest–free loans to patients from our PrOP, so this is not a problem for us) Territorial - most likely the PrOP will be in another region On what terms and what amount will be compensated (we track executed and concluded contracts and can determine the amount of compensation with a 90% probability).
